Project Description

A project close to The County of San Bernardino is the Morongo Oasis Center CRT. It supports a short-term, 16-bed residential program in Joshua Tree, and offers recovery-based treatment options, services, and interventions in a home-like setting. Morongo Oasis Center provides services 24/7, including assessment, physical and psychological evaluation, mental health and case management services, where quality of care and the facility where services are upheld is of the most important. This is why the County’s Department of Behavioral Health has selected Hamel Contracting for the third time for similar projects.

Due to this project’s close proximity to Joshua Tree National Park, the development of the site and the building’s architecture is uniquely specific to the area’s natural desert environment. The building boasts approximately 12,000 square feet of office and residential space, including a commercial-grade kitchen, resident bedrooms, staff offices, nursing rooms, lounge and dining areas, and courtyard garden. The interior space consists of well-appointed finishes, including custom walnut frames and trim, cedar tongue and grove ceilings, and various types of stone. The exterior mid-century modern design includes varying vertical elevations and building pop-outs, as well as seven different exterior skin assemblies including stone tile & stacked veneers, quartz, plaster, concrete panels, T&G cedar siding, metal clad wood windows, and aluminum storefront.

One of the more complex infrastructure systems on the project is hardly even visible to residents and visitors. Due to the lack infrastructure for a permanent sewer connection, the project required a self-contained sewer treatment system prior to entering the seepage system. Hamel Contacting drew on its vast experience and coordinated and installed a half-million dollar plus underground treatment system, complete with remote monitoring and compliance with all local jurisdictions on an extremely tight schedule despite its late addition to the project scope.
